A Memoir of a Mother’s Determination and Her Micro Preemie’s Struggle to Beat the Odds
Yesterday was Parents of Preemies Day and it was amazing. We got to celebrate by participating in a walk to raise money for Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. It was called the Go the Distance Walk. We love to raise money for them because Joy spent 121 days in their NICU after her 23-week birth.
Our team (From hope to Joy) had about 30 walkers. There were so many activities for the family. Home Depot had a large table where kids could build birdhouses and toolboxes. There was face painting, dancing, bounce houses etc… It was such a wonderful day to celebrate Parents of Preemies Day.
Parents of Preemies Day was created by the Graham’s Foundation. It’s a global day to recognize the courage and commitment it takes to stay strong and resilient when a premature birth turns a family’s world upside down. The Graham’s Foundation supports families with babies in the NICU by offering financial and emotional support to them.
After the Go the Distance Walk was over, I got to participate in a Twitter chat in honor Parents of Preemies Day. It was exhilarating! So many preemie parents shared their stories and advice while others reached out for help. It was such a wonderful way to feel connected to other people who are currently going through or have gone through the same thing. I hope that we can all do it again soon.
Thank you to my team walkers today! We had great weather and a great time raising money for the Maria Farari Children’s Hospital. And thank you Graham’s Foundation for creating Parents of Preemies Day and to those who joined in our Twitter chat day.
