A Memoir of a Mother’s Determination and Her Micro Preemie’s Struggle to Beat the Odds
Author, Jennifer Degl (known as Jen to friends and family)
Having grown up an only child, Jen always wanted a large family—and now she has one. She teaches high school science, is a collector of rocks and rare gems, and likes to think of herself as an amateur astronomer. She’s wanted to be an astronaut for as long as she can remember. Jen loves skiing and travel, especially summer family vacations, which are usually road trips. More than anything, Jen loves being a mom and considers every day with her four children a blessing.
John Degl (husband and dad)
John owns and operates Iowa Style Wrestling, a private wrestling club in Somers, NY, where he coaches primary through high school students. He was the first of only two students from his high school to be a New York State wrestling champ. John wrestled at the University of Iowa, and was assistant wrestling coach at Hofstra University. Before opening his wrestling club, he was an elementary school teacher. Jen calls John “a giant, stubborn teddy bear, who makes her laugh more than anyone ever has.”
Sean, the oldest, is so smart, yet so silly—according to Jen. He takes everything he does very seriously and always wants to please. He loves his little sister, who lights up when her big brother Sean is around.
Jack, the middle son, is called a mushy man by his mom. He loves snuggles and hugs, and to dole out the compliments. He gets very upset if he thinks someone is unhappy with him for any reason.
Shane, the youngest son, has a big heart and requires lots of hugs, though he’s also a tough guy: He loves to run around playing with toy swords and does karate moves whenever possible.
Joy is a miracle baby.
Jennifer and John Degl and their four children live in Putnam County, New York.
